By now everybody would have been back in town after a fun filled Aidilfitri ( Hari Raya ) celebration in their hometown. This joyous festive season has not yet ended as Muslims celebrate Hari Raya for a month! The celebration continues to bring happiness and blessings even as it is celebrated here in town.
One of the famous (popular) traditions of Hari Raya celebration in town is having an open house. Where the host invites others to their house and celebrates together regardless of race and religion. This special Hari Raya open house is also said to promote Malaysian multi-cultural values as guests from all over town are invited to celebrate Hari Raya together.
Popular traditional food of Hari Raya such as lemang, ketupat and rendang as well as kuih raya are served during the open house. There are also assortments of the host’s locality such as Sarawak’s layer cake or better known as Kuih Lapis, if the host is from Sarawak. Within this month long Hari Raya celebration, it is common to visit up to 3 or more open house celebrations!
Well, it can be said that the open house tradition is very synonymous with tones of food and it is all free! But don’t neglect your health, do not overeat! Eat according to your diet and stay healthy especially in this festive season of Aidilfitri. So where’s your next open house?
