Najib launches 1Malaysia Mobile River Clinic for Sg Baram

MARUDI April 15 — Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak yesterday launched the 1Malaysia River Mobile Clinic service at the Marudi town jetty to provide health services to the people in the interior areas near Sungai Baram.
The river mobile clinic service, the first of its kind, will benefit about 2,000 residents in 13 longhouses in 10 villages from Marudi to Kuala Baram and another 3,000 residents in settlements between Marudi and Long Lama.
Two teams - each comprising a doctor, dentist, pharmacist, medical assistant and several nurses - are assigned to run the mobile clinic serving the people living on the banks of the Baram River.
The mobile clinic is a collaboration between the Health Ministry and Yayasan 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB).
Currently, the ‘Flying Doctors’ service is also used to provide services in the interior areas of Sarawak by using air transport provided by the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF).
In his speech to about 4,000 people at the gathering of the People With the Leader at the Marudi Town Square, Najib announced an allocation of RM60 million for the construction of the Marudi-Miri Road to facilitate travel between the two destinations which currently takes about three hours by express boat from Kuala Baram.
In addition, the Prime Minister also approved an allocation of RM1 million for the SJK (C) Kee Tee building fund at Long Lama, located in the Telang Usan state constituency.
Also present at the function were Health Minister, Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai and Barisan Nasional (BN) candidates Sylvester Entri Muran and Dennis Ngau, for Marudi and Telang Usan respectively.
Najib, who is on a visit to the interior areas in the north-eastern part of Sarawak yesterday, later boarded a helicopter to visit the Bario highland which is a Kelabit community.

Najib reiterates confidence on BN winning Sarawak election

LAWAS April 15 — Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has reiterated his confidence that the Land of the Hornbills will remain under the Barisan Nasional (BN) rule come Saturday when the people of Sarawak cast their ballots for the 10th state election.
The Prime Minister said that under the BN government, Sarawak would continue to transform and become a more prosperous state.
"Cooperation between the federal and state governments is crucial in carrying the burden and discharging the responsibility to change the landscape in Sarawak,” he said when simultaneously opening the Seri Malaysia Hotel, Lawas and performing the ground-breaking ceremony for the new Lawas hospital, here yesterday.
Najib said: “We want the Barisan Nasional to continue to administer (Sarawak) so that we can continue to undertake reforms and transformation.” He said that since the launch of the Government Transformation Programme (GTP) and the National Key Result Area, Sarawak had received RM5.7 billion in allocations to build rural infrastructural facilities within the next three years.
"This is the biggest allocation in history given by the federal government to the state of Sarawak.
"We need power so that the transformation is not stunted. It should not be hindered but should be speeded up further,” said the Prime Minister.
Najib said he had adopted the 1Malaysia concept and had gone down on the ground to see the situation and the problems faced by the rakyat and to feel their ‘pulse’.
He said that his visits and walkabouts were not only carried out during the election but had started much earlier.
The Prime Minister also questioned the capability of the Sarawak Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) chairman, Baru Bian, who is also the PKR candidate for Ba’Kelalan, in transforming Sarawak.
"Baru Bian is a good lawyer, but does he have the ability to transform Sarawak?” asked Najib.
He also announced that Lawas was also no longer a ‘grey area’ for the Barisan Nasional but had changed to a ‘white’.
